William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare was born in the village in Stratford-upon-Avon, 100 miles northwest of London in 1564.
This is the house where Shakespeare was born. At the time of his birth, the house had a population of 1500 people and only 200 houses.

Shakespeare´s parents are John and Mary Shakespeare, who lived in Stratford. John Sh. Was a glove-maker and a fairly prominent figure as well. He died in 1616, leaving little land to William, his eldest son. William and his brother often helping his father in his father´s shop. Not much is known of Mary Shakespeare, but she had friendlier parents than John.
Young William would have attented the King Edward´s Grammar school in Stratford. After leaving school at around 14 William went to learn his father´s job in his father´s workshop.
When he was 18, he married Anne Hathway in year 1582, who was a few years older than himself. Anne´s father died a year before Anne and William were married. Anne and William had their first child, Susanna was followed by twins, Judith and Hamnet, two years later.

Susanna lived to the age of 66, she married Dr.John Hall in 1607 and they had one child, called Elizabeth. Hamnet Shakespeare was born just over two years after his parents married, he died at the age of 11, in 1596, and was buried at Stratford. Judith married Thomas Quiney at the age of 31, in Stratford. Her children all died very young.

Shakespeare was the famoust wroter and actor, and in 1594 he became an playwright for the Lord Chamberlain´s men. He played roles as an ghost. In 1599 he became a part owner of the Globe theatre. He has written many drama´s!

The Globe Theatre was an early English theatre in London where most of Shakespeare´s plays were presented. It was built in year 1599 by two brothers in North London. The new Globe theatre was planned as a part of larger complex of buildings known as the International Shakespeare Globe theatre.

Wiliam died on the 23rd of April 1616 in Stratford. In his will he left his house and land to his eldest daughter, his wife his second-best-bed, his youngest daughter a silver gowl, and enough money for the family. He left also 100 pounds to his daugther judith, 30 pounds to his sister Joan Hart, and 10 pounds to poor people of Stratford.
