A midsummer night`s dream
Plot:
Theseus, Duke of Athens, plans his wedding with the Queen of Amazons. Therefore he expects guests like Egeus with his daughter Hermia and her entourage (Lysander, Demetrius and Helena). Also craftsmen practice a play in the woods, hope to show during the wedding celebrations.
Hermia loves Lysander, but is engaged to Demetrius, who is loved by Helena. To escape from the “forced” engagement, they flee into the woods. Hermia tells her friend Helena her decision to run away. Helena tells Demetrius the plan, hoping he will love her for her honesty. But he chases after the eloping couple, and Helena chases after him.
In the meantime Oberon, the fairy king, wants to get back his wife Titania, who is separated from him. Therefore he wants to put a magic flower juice on her eyes, she will fall in love with the first person she sees. As Oberon has pity with Helena, he asks his servant Puck to use the juice for Demetrius, so he will fall in love with Helena. But Puck goes to Lysander instead and accidentally uses the juice on him.
Helena comes across and wakes Lysander up, who falls in love with her and starts chasing her through the woods. Realizing the mistake, Oberon puts the juice also onto Demetrius eyes, who now also falls in love with Helena. The two men want to fight for Helena, but to prevent them from dueling, Puck restores Lysander’s love for Hermia while he sleeps. So each young woman is matched with the man she loves. Also Egeus is convinced that the couples should marry, so they join the royal wedding.
In the meantime Titania, still quarreling with Oberon, got some juice on her eyes. She falls in love with one of the craftsman who prepares the play in the woods. Due to a prank of Puck, he wears a donkey’s head. Oberon decides that this confusion is enough, he disenchants Titania and removes the craftsman’s donkey head so he can join his friends at the rehearsal. He thinks he must have experienced a dream.

Romeo and Juliet
Plot:
Romeo and Juliet are from different families in Verona, who hate each other. Romeo is a member of the Montague family and Juliet of the Capulet. Unfortunately they fall in fall at a party, but they are sure they will never be allowed to marry. But with
the help of Friar Laurence, they marry in secret. Before their wedding night Romeo kills Juliet’s cousin in a duel, this forces him to leave the city the next morning. For him it is not possible to come back to the city, because he would be put to death. So his family decides to ban him to Mentua.

Later Juliet`s parents tell her she must marry Paris. She doesn`t want to, but finally she agrees because her plan is to fake her death. After that she wants to escape and life with Romeo togethe. Laurence should help her again.

Laurence concocts the plan. He gives her a sleeping potion, so she appears to be dead and is put in a tomb. But Romeo doesn’t know about the plan, because the letter, which was sent by Juliet, didn`t reach him. When he stands at Juliet`s fake grave, he is overcome with grief decides to kill himself. When Juliet wakes up from her 48 hour sleep, she discovers that Romeo is dead and then she kills herself, too.

Themes:
The play is about a long feud between the Montague and Capulet families. It contrasts hatred and revenge with love and a secret marriage. Mainly the play is about the romantic love between Romeo and Juliet, that springs up at first sight. In „Romeo and Juliet“ love is a violent and overpowering force that replaces all other emotions and loyalties.
