Today we present you sport in Ireland.
At first I tell you a little bit about Gaelic football.
The game Gaelic football is a mix of soccer and rugby and it is played just in Ireland. The ball is some smaller than a foot ball and looks like a volleyball. It has an extent of 68-70 cm, is heavy between 450 and 485 gram and consists of leather. The first mention of a play named football in Ireland is in the statutes of Galway from the year 1527.
The playing field has a length of 130-145meters and has a broad of 70-80 meters.
Each crew consists of 15 players: one goalkeeper, three Full Backs, three help Backs, two Midfielder, three half- Forwards and three Full Forwards.
In the game it is allowed to change 5 players. They usually play 60 minutes within a break that takes 15 minutes.
A player may play the ball with each part of the body. It is does not permit to pick up the ball from the ground.
A gate counts as much as 3 points. But the players can run with the ball into the goal and it counts also 3 points.
Now I tell you something about Hurling.
Hurling means in our language schleudern.
Hurling is a crew sport of Celtic origin, which is played with sticks and a ball. It is played mainly in Ireland and is one of the fastest crew kinds of sport of the world. The woman variant of the Hurling is called Camogie. Each player is equipped with a stick. The stick is called Hurley or Camán and made traditionally of ash wood. It has a length of 64-97 cm. The beat of the stick is more broadly than the grasp and is called Bas. The ball is called Sliotar and is out of leather. It has an extent from 23 to 25 cm and weighs between 110 and 120 gram. A well struck ball can reach up to 150 km/h and fly well 80 meters far. Most players have plastic helmet with face protection. To cover the face from the ball. Their best result in the world championship was in the year 1990 in the Quarter final.
Croke park is standing in Dublin and is the most important stadium and the head office of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), the largest Irish sport organization. It is at present the largest stadium in Ireland (and the fifth-largest in Europe) with a capacity of 82.500 spectators. The stadium is used for Gaelic football, Hurling and Camogie. In this year it was opened also for rugby and football. In addition tere also concerts take place.
Last but not least I tell you about some Irish soccer associations.
One of best associations are the Cork City
The Cork City. Their fool name is Cork City Football Club.
Here is the logo of the club. Its nickname is City, Rebel Army and the club was based in the year 1984. Their stadium is called Turners Cross, Cork and has a Capacity of 8.985. The president is Brian Lennox and the trainer is Damien Richardson. They play in the League Premier Division.
They were Irish master in the year 1992 and 2005.
