German Education System - Referat
GERMAN EDUCATION SYSTEM
GENERAL GERMAN EDUCATION SYSTEM:
- divided into four parts
Primary: - covering first four school years in primary school (or
even in the special school)
Secondary education 1: - leading to main or secondary school
- divided in primary, secondary, high and
grammar school
Secondary education 2: - begins after Se1 as high schools/vocational
schools
Tertiary education: - located at universities, vocational collages,
technical collages
Quartary education: - have a job and go to further education
TYPES OF SCHOOLS:
- state schools -> parents needn’t pay a fee
- private schools -> parents have to pay a fee
- boarding schools
- almost no single-sex schools -> some subjects teach by separated
genders
EDUCATIONSYSTEM:
age 2-6 -> kindergarten
age 6-10 -> primary school
age 10-16 -> grammar school, comprehensive school, intermediate
school, secondary school
age 16-18 -> higher education in grammar school (ABI)
over age of 18 -> study, look for a job, training course
SUBJECTS:
main subjects: German, Maths, English
other subjects: Biology, Geography, History, Physics, Chemistry,
Art, Religion, Ethics, Sport, Music, Social studies,
foreign languages (Russian, Latin, French)
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- we may even choose where we do work experience
- in grammar school in grade 9
- find a placement to see how to work
- follow rules, work with other people
- find out more about jobs, learn about practical work
- don’t get money
EXAMS:
- take exams already in primary school -> competency test (grade 3)
- most important exams 10th class -> BLF (special performance
assessment)
- and in grade 12 -> ABI similar A-levels
- with this certificate you looked for a job or a place in university
TIME TO GO TO SCHOOL:
- grammar school: 7.15-9.40 (3 lessons), breakfast, 10.00-12.25 (3
lessons), lunch break, 13.10-13.55 last lesson,
sometimes 2 lessons more until 15.35
