Croatia

Croatia is a state in europe.
He is borderd on Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and on the Adriatic Sea.
The croatin territory is about 89.810 square metre (it includes land territory and sea territory).
Thanks to an coast from 5.835 kilometre and the beautiful nature Croatia is developed to an popular destination.
The capital Zagreb with 1 million inhabitans is the economic, cultural and academic centre.
The official name of Croatia is republic Hrvatska.
Croatia has 4,4 million inhabitants.
About 96% of the people speak croatian, on the coast they speak sometimes italian, too.
As well as english and german for the tourism industry.
The vast majority of the population are the croats.
Besides a lot of national minoritys live in Croatia, for example:
Serbians, Albanians, Hungarians, Slovenians, Czechs, Slovaks…
The most inhabitants of Croatia are Catholics.

Croatias nature is very varied; the country includes lowlands, highlands, a long coast and islands.
In the interior there is continental climate with hot summers and cold winters.
In the summer the temperature is about 23°C and in the winter around the freezing point.

The higgest mountains of croatia are the Dinara (1.831 m), the Jure (1.763 m) and in the west of croatia the Snjeznik (1.796) also the frontier to Slovenia.
There are about 20 other mountains which were higer then 1.500 metres.

The langest rivers are the Drava and the Sava which form the frontier to Bosnia – Herzegovina and drain to the Donau in Germany!

Especially for the german holidaymaker, croatia was for a long time a popular destination.
In the time of the difficult deposition from Yugoslavia and the civil war the tourism went far away! Since the end of the conflict more and more people go to croatia for holiday! The tourism has a long tradtion and is just capable of development.
The offer is big and everyone (the age is absolutly unimportant) could find something that makes he or she happy!
For a lot of inhabitants of the coast the tourism is one of the importants branchs of industry, because they earn their money with it!
From mai to october people from hole europe come to croatia.
In the year 2005 there were about 10 million tourists.

In the land on the other side of the adria, there are a lot of things to see: classic holiday places are the beaches of the Adriatic Sea and the historical towns (Dubrovnik, Split).
As well as the charming landscape inside the country..

In the hinterland of croatia you can find the Plitvicer leaks.
In a valley, which is surround from high wooded mountains, you can see 16 bigger and smaller lakes with crystal – clear, blue – green water.
The water streams from many little streams and brooks into the lakes, which were in conjunction with rushing waterfalls.
The temperautre of the water go up to 24°C in the summer.
And in the months from november to march it snows.
In december and january the lakes freeze.
Round the leaks are a lot of ways to go for a walk. The view of all the wonderful picturesque things is so amazing, so that you don’t want to go away from there!
Also you can explore the lakes and their beauty with a boat.

The adriatic coast croatias could
keep up with the adriatic coast from italian and the italian riviera, too. Because of their islands some people say that the coast of croatia is more beautiful than the italian!
The tourism is concentrated in some regions, in which modern hotels are or where you can find big camping sites!
But when you travel with a car, you can see deserted wonderful coasts with emerald water every day.
Something wonderfull to see are the islands, not far away from the coast.
In lots of little groups they are extend down to Montenegro.
Sometimes they are wooden , sometimes rocky …
On some islands the tourism is spread par exemple Krk. Others will opened up for the holiday maker!
So varied the landscape of croatia is, is the offer for people who like sport, too.
The clear water is perfect to dive! Angler could angle on the Mediterranean Sea.
Also Surfing and sailing belong to one of the best arts to experience the coast!
The hinterland invites mountaineer and wanderer to adventurous tours with amazing regions.

Now I want to tell you something about the most known national park in croatia…
The Krka National Park is a spacious, largely unchanged region of exceptional and multifaceted natural value.
It is intended for scientific, cultural, recreational, and tourism activities such as visiting and sightseeing. It was proclaimed a national park in 1985.
The Krka National Park belongs to the Southern European region.It is characterized by exceptionally rich and varied flora and fauna.
Eight hundred and sixty species and subspecies of plants have been identified within the territory of the Krka National Park.
You can find eighteen species of fishes the Krka River. The abundance of various species of birds (222), the structure of the bird communities and the great meaning of the Krka for spring and autumn migrations make it to an very important region in Eourope. Among animals, there are 18 species of bats, which are generally endangered species in the rest of Europe. But there, they live without any problems!



Croatia has an very varied multicultural cook tradition!
Whether goulash, sauerkraut, pizza, dumpling or wiener schnitzel, a lot of dishes are typical for croatia!
Croatia citchen is also culinary. A great variety of the meat dishes, fish specialitys, soups, bacon, cheese, ham and a good vine are typical for the croatian citchen!
Croatia has a lot of traditional dishes on traditional days!
On pilgrimages or parish fairs they eat pork and potato soap.
A plateful of cod fishes they have at good Friday and Christmas, or minced filled in cabbage.
Doughnut means “hrostule” and will be served at carnival.
At easter they eat ham and egs with vegetables. The dessert is cake, for exemple: Pinca and Sama!
Also, they love to grill for exemple young pigs!
